I took some time out at the weekend to just sit back and enjoy the view from my armchair in the conservatory … and I’m so glad that I did. The feeders were filled (but not for very long) and I managed to get a few pictures of the wildlife that regularly visit the garden:
The first is a British favourite … the Robin. There are two flitting about the garden but I couldn’t get a photo of them together.
We had 11 female pheasants in the garden a few weeks ago … not sure where they’ve all gone.
Last year we had three collared doves … I believe that they mate for life so it’s sad that we only have one this year.
The bird food didn’t last long … this cheeky squirel stole this fat ball and a few moments later his mate ran off with another!! I wasn’t able to photograph the commotion in the trees when a crow chased one of the squirels through the tree tops … I can only think that it was too close to the crow’s nest.
Our male woodpecker has been the most difficult to photograph … he’s so flighty, the slightest movement and he’s off into the trees.
We did manage to tempt him down from the high branches with some nuts:
These are very pretty and brightly coloured siskins … we didn’t have any last year but I’ve counted about 10 this weekend. Sadly, our very pretty goldfinches have failed to make an appearance so far this year.
As I write this I can hear a male owl hooting away in the trees outside the window … no chance of ever getting a photo of him I suppose!!
Not a bad way to spend Earth Day 🙂
I hope that you’ve enjoyed the pictures.
